WiMAX Development in Asia January 25-31

- Japanese WiMAX carrier UQ Communications announced on January 25 that it has deployed 5,000 outdoor WiMAX base stations in Japan, the Asashi Shimbun reported. Previously UQ planned to deploy 4,000 outdoor base stations by the end of fiscal 2009 ending in March 2010, but in November the company adjusted the target upwards to 6,000. Moreover, by January 25, UQ Communications has obtained the approval for constructing 6,559 WiMAX base stations throughout Japan.

- Motorola announced on January 27 that Taiwan's Far EasTone Communications has adopted its end-to-end solution in launching the WiMAX network in Taichung, central Taiwan, the Central News Agency reported. The devices used by Far EasTone in its network deployment include Motorola's WAO 400 and WAP 450 base stations as well as CSN (Connectivity Service Network) AAA (Authentication, Authorization and Accounting) solutions.
